Well due to the construction and wishes of the people about a good clear sound.

In Dutch houses 1945-1970 they did not like a full low Bass output.
Very conservative, church going people.

So Dutch radios where fare more constructed to mid-range sound.
Listen to Talk radio good, good clear understanding in speech.
Then some good classic music and in mid-range well enough clear, clean sound.

Seldom a radio in Dutch homes were been played at full volume, due to "Neighbours".
In most Dutch houses within cities you could hear every step sound coming from next door.
So as Low Bass especially long distance travel to wall, wood floorings and beams,
they keep Bass at a very minor level.
So why even bother to put it in the first place.

Yeh off-course the high power amps and good high end speakers, off-course they produced that.
Only the very high end Radio's like BX998A, BX724A, BX642 HiQ set, etc. with Bass corner speaker.

But as for normal use mid range, a low Bass was out of the question.

All above just my perception, due to experiences, 45yrs of collecting radio's.
