>I have a "Saba Sabine" radio, and I it is I working condition, I got it really cheap from a second hand shop and I am very happy with it. My original idea was to use this radio's circuit to make a small amplifier, by removing the radio circuit. Since the radio is in near to perfect condition (just needs some paint), I have been recommended to not modify it, but to restore it.

Hi Gonzalo,

Yes you can use the radio as an amplifier for external appliances like a pick-up or cd-player. (You did not ask me this before and I did not think of it... :-)
The "Tohnabnehmer" is the plug to do this with. You should press the L and the K buttons together at the front of the radio. (At least that is on my radio how it works)
At the back you will find two plugs with an "O" with a "/" to the bottom left. There are 3 holes, use the two with the brass plugs, so that is the left and the right one. Modern appliances as cd-players etc. have tulip-plugs and they will not fit to this radio. You will have to search for "Banana-plugs" in electronica shops. Change the tulips into banana's and it should work.
You can always check the amplifier part by pressing a ISOLATED screwdriver to the plugs at the backside of the radio when you have pressed the L and K buttons and the radio is turned on.
While pressing/touching the plugs with the screwdriver you should hear a tone (we call it a "bromtoon" you can compare it with the sound that a dog makes when he is angry)
Only one of the two plugs will cause this tone and it will go away as soon as you let go of the plug again.

NOTE: Always make sure to take the plug out of the mains as soon as you open the back of the radio or if you want to touch any metal without isolated tools.

Goodluck, Ramon Pool
